Patrick McArdle

"method not materials"

Pat painted from sketches. He always had his sketchbook with him and when he was pleased with a particular one would transfer it to canvas in order to paint. He did not work directly from the model. He worked quickly, typically completeing a canvas in one day. Often dissatisfied with his work, he destroyed as many paintings as he kept. He was fond of ordinary things and many of the objects found in his still lifes remain in the family.
